When a drain is blocked, it can seem “fixed” for a day, then slow down again. That’s usually because grease, roots, scale or debris is still clinging to the inside of the pipe.

Jet blasting is the high-pressure water cleaning method we use to remove build-up from the pipe walls, restore full flow and reduce repeat blockages. You’ll also hear it called high-pressure drain cleaning, hydro jetting, water jet drain cleaning, drain jetting or sewer jetting.

If your drain is overflowing or backing up right now, our Emergency Plumbing service can prioritise urgent drainage issues where possible. Call Now (02) 9784 2455

What Jet Blasting does

Jet blasting uses controlled high-pressure water and specialist nozzles to:

Water stain icon
cut through grease and sludge
Blocked Toilet Repair icon
break up compacted debris and scale
Icon of a rusty bolt
flush out grit and sediment
Icon of grass blades
clear fine roots and organic build-up
Water leak icon
wash residue off the pipe walls so the line runs freely again

It’s designed to clean the line properly, which is why it’s often the right option when a blockage is stubborn or keeps returning.

When drain jetting is the right choice

Jet blasting is most useful when you need more than a temporary clearance. Common reasons customers book jet blasting:

  • Repeated blockages in the same drain
  • Slow draining sinks, showers or floor wastes
  • Gurgling, odours or bubbling in the pipework
  • Grease build-up in kitchen waste lines
  • Tree roots affecting the sewer line
  • Stormwater lines holding water or overflowing
  • You want the line cleaned after the cause has been identified

If you’re dealing with recurring drainage problems and want the broader service that covers the situation end-to-end, our Blocked Drains team can assess what’s happening and recommend the right fix, including jet blasting when it’s the best option.

What you can expect after jet blasting

A proper jet blast is about more than getting water moving again. Done properly, you should notice:

faster drainage and restored flow

  • Fewer repeat blockages because residue is removed, not left behind
  • Cleaner lines, especially in grease-prone waste pipes
  • Clearer next steps if signs of a larger issue appear once the line is flowing

Jet blasting is a cleaning and clearing service. It does not include pipe relining, excavation or replacement.

Where jet blasting helps most
  • Kitchen and grease-affected lines: Grease doesn’t just “block” a pipe; it coats it. Jet blasting strips that build up back so the line drains properly again. If you’ve had repeat issues and want to reduce future callouts, planned servicing through Plumbing Maintenance can help keep problem lines clear.

  • Sewer lines and tree roots: Roots and organic build-up can restrict flow and cause recurring blockages. Jet blasting can cut and flush fine roots out of the line to restore capacity.

  • Bathrooms and floor wastes: Slow drains, gurgling and odours often come from residue and debris collecting in the line. A proper clean-out removes the build-up rather than leaving it behind.

  • Stormwater drains: Leaves, silt and debris can build up and restrict stormwater flow. If you’re seeing pooling water, overflow at pits or repeated blockages in stormwater lines, the broader drainage context is covered under Stormwater Drainage, and persistent saturated ground or water pooling around the property may be related to Sub Soil Drainage.

  • Toilets: If the toilet is the issue, it’s usually faster to book via Blocked Toilets so we can match the right approach from the start.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

When done by a licensed plumber using the right nozzle and controlled pressure, jet blasting is a safe and effective way to clear drains. We tailor the approach to suit the job.

It depends on access, the line length and what’s causing the blockage. Many jobs are completed within 1-2 hours, but we’ll set expectations once we understand what’s happening on site.

Not always. CCTV is useful when the cause is unclear, when blockages keep returning or when verification is needed. It can be added when required.

Jet blasting removes residue and build-up that can cause repeat blockages, which reduces recurrence. For problem lines, scheduled maintenance is often the best way to keep drains flowing.

Yes. Hydro jetting, drain jetting, high-pressure drain cleaning and water jet drain cleaning are common names for the same method.
