What Is Jet Blasting?

A high-pressure water pump, a flexible jetter nozzle, and enough PSI to cut through tree roots. That’s jet blasting. We feed the nozzle through the drain line and the water pressure does the work, cutting through blockages, stripping grease off pipe walls, flushing everything cleanly out of the system.
You’ll also hear it called hydro jetting, high-pressure drain cleaning, or drain jetting. Same thing.

Jet Blasting vs a Drain Snake

This is the question we get asked most. Here’s the honest answer.
A drain snake bores through a blockage mechanically. It gets the water moving again, but it leaves debris on the pipe walls. For root intrusions, it tends to punch a hole through the root mass rather than remove it. The roots recover. The drain blocks again, usually within a few months.
Jet blasting flushes the line completely. The nozzle cuts through the root mass, the water pressure washes the walls clean, and everything gets pushed out of the system. The drain stays clear for significantly longer because the cause has been cleared, not just punctured.
For clay and terracotta pipes, which is what most Inner West homes have, jet blasting is the right tool. A drain snake can catch on old pipe joints and cause mechanical damage. The jetter flows through and cleans without that risk.
A snake clears a blockage. A jetter clears the pipe.
What Jet Blasting Clears

Jet blasting uses controlled high-pressure water and specialist nozzles to:

Grease

Grease coats pipe walls over years and narrows the bore. The jetter strips it off and flushes it out in a single pass.

Tree roots

The root-cutting nozzle spins as it moves through the line, cutting through the mass and flushing the debris out. We re-run the camera after to confirm the line is clear.

Soap scum and scale

Bathroom lines accumulate soap scum, shampoo residue and mineral scale. The jetter cleans it all in one pass.

Leaves, soil and organic matter in outdoor drains clear cleanly.

When We Use It

We run a CCTV inspection through the drain before we jet. If the camera shows a cracked or structurally compromised pipe, we won’t jet it until the structural issue is assessed. Jetting into a badly deteriorated pipe can make things worse.
We also use jet blasting as part of every pipe relining job. The pipe needs to be thoroughly cleaned before the liner goes in.

ARE SAYING

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

Yes, provided the pipe is still structurally intact. That’s why we run a camera through first, every time.

A snake bores through a blockage but leaves the pipe walls dirty. Jet blasting flushes the pipe walls clean and removes root masses completely. The result holds for significantly longer.

Most jobs take 30 to 90 minutes from start to finish, including the camera inspection before jetting and the re-inspection after.

From $139. $0 call-out fee. Fixed price after the camera inspection. Call to book.
