Plumbing Maintenance Sydney
Same Day, $0 Call Out, Lifetime Warranty

Preventive Plumbing Maintenance

Preventive plumbing maintenance helps identify small issues before they turn into expensive emergencies. At Champion Plumbing & Drains, we provide professional plumbing maintenance services for homes across Sydney’s Inner West.

Our licensed plumbers carry out thorough inspections of your plumbing system, identifying early signs of wear, leaks, pressure issues, and drainage problems so they can be addressed before causing damage.

Why annual plumbing maintenance saves you money

Skipped maintenance is the most expensive line item on most Inner West plumbing bills. A slow drain that gets ignored for six months becomes a sewer rebuild. A cistern that whispers through the night runs the water bill up before anyone notices. An ageing hot water unit fails on a Sunday and turns into an emergency callout.

An annual plumbing inspection catches all of that early, while the fixes are still cheap. Our licensed plumbers walk every fixture, every valve, and every visible run of pipework. We flag what needs attention now, what to watch, and what’s likely to fail in the next twelve months. You get a written report, an upfront price for any repairs, and a reminder when your next check is due.

What We Check During Your Maintenance Visit

During a maintenance visit, our plumbers follow a structured inspection process and explain what we find in clear terms. We focus on identifying issues that need attention now versus items to monitor over time.

Our checks typically include:

Taps and fixtures
Toilet icon
Toilets and cisterns
Temperature icon
Hot water systems
Icon of a drain
Drains and visible pipework
Water meter icon
Water pressure testing
Water leak icon
Signs of leaks or corrosion

If any issues are identified, we’ll explain the findings and outline recommended next steps.

Your seasonal plumbing maintenance checklist

Sydney’s plumbing system works hardest at the seasonal turnover points. Heat stresses outdoor taps and hot water units. Storms test gutters and stormwater pits. Cold snaps expose hairline cracks in older pipework. Use this plumbing maintenance checklist as a rolling guide for the year, and book a professional inspection annually.

When to call a plumber, and what’s safe to DIY

Most homeowners can handle the small jobs without help. The line gets drawn at gas, recurring leaks, and anything pressurised.

Safe to DIY

  • Clearing a hair clog from a basin or shower trap.
  • Replacing a tap washer on a quarter-turn or compression tap.
  • Flushing the hot water unit annually.
  • Cleaning aerators and showerheads of mineral build-up.
  • Running food colouring tests on toilet cisterns to spot silent leaks.

Call a licensed plumber

  • Anything involving gas. Working on gas without a licence is illegal in NSW and carries fines and insurance consequences.
  • Persistent or recurring leaks, even small ones. The visible drips are rarely the whole story.
  • Low pressure across the whole home, which usually points to a pressure-limiting valve or mains issue.
  • Repeat blockages in the same drain, which often signal root intrusion or a collapsed line.
  • Any hot water unit older than eight years showing rust, weeping, or temperature drift.

Champion’s licensed plumbers cover all of the above. $0 call-out fee on every visit.

Inner West maintenance considerations

Inner West homes aren’t standard plumbing jobs. The housing stock through Newtown, Marrickville, Leichhardt, Annandale, Balmain, Stanmore, and Petersham is dominated by Federation and Victorian terraces, many with original galvanised supply lines, lead joints on the older sewer runs, and terracotta stormwater that was laid before the Second World War.

Galvanised supply pipes corrode from the inside out. By forty years in, the internal bore can be half its original size, which shows up as low pressure on the upstairs shower. Terracotta drainage and lead-jointed sewer mains are root magnets for Port Jackson Fig and jacaranda roots, which is why slow drains repeat in the same homes year after year.

Access is the second factor. Terrace properties through St. Peter’s, Ashfield, and Drummoyne often have shared walls, narrow side returns, and no rear lane access. That changes how a job gets scoped and priced. Slab-on-ground builds in Five Dock, Burwood, Concord, Homebush, and Strathfield bring different concerns: leak detection under the slab is harder and more expensive when it gets left late.

Champion’s plumbers work these homes every day. We know what to expect before we walk through the door.

Annual plumbing inspection plans

Champion currently offers a complimentary home plumbing safety inspection as part of our current specials. It’s the easiest way to start an ongoing maintenance relationship, particularly if you’ve just moved in or haven’t had a plumber through the home in years.

Our annual plumbing inspection plans cover everything beyond that first visit:

  • One full home plumbing inspection every 12 months.
  • Reminder notifications when your next check is due.
  • A detailed written report outlining findings and recommendations.
  • Priority booking if a problem develops between scheduled visits.
  • Lifetime labour guarantee on all completed work.

$0 call-out fee on every visit. That’s our policy, not a current offer. Book online to set up your plan.

Common Issues Found During Maintenance Checks

Across hundreds of inspections through the Inner West, the same problems show up again and again:

  • Slow or recurring drain blockages from tree root intrusion.
  • Toilet cisterns leak internally, often unnoticed for months.
  • Ageing copper joints are starting to weep behind walls or under sinks.
  • Mains water pressure running above 500 kPa, wearing fittings out early.
  • Hot water unit pressure relief valves are dripping or sticking.
  • Hairline corrosion on galvanised supply lines in older terraces.

What to expect on price

Annual plumbing maintenance is quoted upfront based on the size of your home and the systems being inspected. A standard visit covers taps, toilets, hot water, drains, water pressure, and visible pipework, then you get a written report with findings and recommendations. Right now you can book a complimentary plumbing safety inspection through our current specials, no charge for the assessment itself. Any follow-up work is quoted before it starts. $0 call-out fee.

Call (02) 9784 2455 or see our current specials to claim the free inspection.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

Annual residential plumbing safety inspections are complimentary on first call for new customers. After that, scheduled maintenance visits are quoted on the work needed. Catching a problem early through maintenance is much cheaper than calling out for an emergency repair. $0 call-out fee. See our full pricing.

Visual inspection of accessible pipework and connections, hot water system condition and anode rod check, tap and toilet flush testing, drain flow test on every fixture, water pressure check, and a written report flagging anything that needs attention now or in the next 12 months.

Once a year for most Inner West homes. Older properties with original galvanised pipework or clay drainage benefit from a six-monthly check, especially heading into autumn when leaf fall hits stormwater drains. Call us today to book a maintenance visit.

For older Inner West homes, yes. Original clay drains, ageing galvanised pipework and 15-year-old hot water systems all fail eventually. A maintenance visit catches the early warning signs and lets you plan replacement rather than reacting to a flood. Every repair we do is backed by our lifetime labour guarantee.
